Abstract:[Objective]To introduce the surgical technique and preliminary clinical results of Polyester suture combined with Nice knot for treatment of transverse patella fracture. [Methods]20 patients with transverse patellar fracture were treated using non-absorbable polyester suture combined with Nice knot.Anterior midline incision of the knee ,Four evenly distributed bone tunnels were established along the longitudinal axis of the patella after reduction of fracture. Figure of eight tension band was performed on the surface of the patella after threading through the two bone tunnels near articular surface with 5 # non-absorbable polyester suture, then circular band was performed with 5 # non-absorbable polyester suture in the other two bone tunnels, all of which were fixed with Nice knot.[Results]All patients successfully completed the operation without serious complications. All 20 subjects were followed up for 12 to 18 months, all of them achieved fracture healing. At the latest follow-up,the average B?stman patellar fracture function score was (28.3±1.6),and the maximum range of motion of the knee joint was (132.3 ± 4.2)°.According to the B?stman patellar fracture function score, the knee function of all patients reached excellent grade.[Conclusion]Polyester suture combined with Nice knot for the treatment of transverse patellar fracture has the advantages of reliable fixation, less complications, and no need for reoperation to remove the internal fixation. The short-term clinical effect is satisfactory.
