Orthopedic Journal of China was founded in March 1994. In August 2020, with the approval of the National Press and Publication Administration, the competent authority was changed from the China Association of Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons to the National Health Commission; while Sponsor was change from 88th Hospital of PLA to Chinese Medical Doctors Association and China Association of Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons. The editor in chief is Professor Sun Lei. It is now published semi-monthly at home and abroad.
The purpose of the journal is to serve the clinician, especially pays attention to the basic level orthopedic institute, with character of popularization combined with improvement and theory combined with practice, focusing on the field of orthopedic surgery involving orthopedic trauma, bone diseases, bone tumors, infections, as well as spine and limb deformities caused by various reasons. The Journal mainly introduce new theory, new achievement and new experience in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic diseases. The main columns include original article, basic research, literature reviews, technological note, expert forums, clinical research, experience exchange, etc.
Readers of this journal include medical staff at all levels engaged in orthopedics, rehabilitation, medical imaging, pediatric orthopedics and related fields, as well as postgraduate and medical students in various medical colleges and research institutions.
This journal was founded as a quarterly magazine, then became bimonthly in 1997, monthly in 1999, and semi-monthly in 2003.
Currently, it is a Chinese core journal of Peking University, a core journal of Chinese science and technology, a source journal of China Science Citation Database (CSCD), a core journal of Chinese medicine and health, and an RCCSE Chinese core academic journal (A). In the classification directory of high-quality scientific and technological journals in the field of clinical medicine - the Classification Directory of Scientific and Technological Journals in Burn Surgery released by the Chinese Medical Association in 2022, this journal is listed as T3 level. And it has been taken down in Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, Ulrichs Journal Guide, Chemical Abstracts, and Public Works in the UK. It is also included in international search databases such as "Public Health" and the WHO Western Pacific Medical Index.
This journal has been successively awarded as a National Excellent Journal in editing quality, an Excellent Medical Journal of PLA, a National Excellent Science and Technology Journal in 2011 and 2017, and one hundred outstanding academic journals in China in 2016 and 2018. As of December 2023, the total number of downloads of the journal reached 2.77 million and the total number of citations reached 154000 on CNKI. There are 4336 domestic institutional users, mainly distributed in hospitals, universities, research institutions, and public libraries at all levels. There are 99 foreign institutions, mainly distributed in North America, South Korea, and the East South Asia, etc. Individual readers are distributed in 31 countries and regions. As an important platform for academic exchange in the field of orthopedics in China, it is deeply loved by orthopedic physicians.
